Chapter Ten

The past two days had been glorious. Blake had wooed her, wining and dining her with his expertise on the outdoor grill and making her feel like a pampered princess. But with only two days left until Christmas, she needed to get away for a couple of hours. Not that he was smothering her, but a little bit of alone time was in order.

She needed to get him a Christmas present. Sure, she had the fairly impersonal one still at home she'd planned to give him after she got back from her vacation, but that was before the auction and his becoming her lover.

Her lover. Those two words were surreal. Never in her wildest imagination would she have associated them with Blake Donovan. Yet the reality of lying in his arms, making love with him, far surpassed any wickedly decadent fantasy.

He'd wanted to come along, but she'd finally convinced him she needed to pick up “girly” supplies, and he'd backpedaled quick enough. Now her only question was what to get him.

One of her first stops had been a lingerie shop. She'd gone online and pulled up one of her favorites, and found they had a store not too far away. Walking through the doors, she felt like a kid in a candy shop. Sexy lingerie was her kryptonite. While she was a bigger woman and needed support for her overabundance of God-given assets, she loved wearing the racy silk and satin beneath her sensible hospital scrubs or clinic uniform. They made her feel confident in her femininity. She was a strong, secure woman who just happened to embrace her sensual side.

Having made a major dent in her credit card, she walked out with several things she couldn't wait to model for Blake, although she doubted she'd be wearing them for long. If he had his way, she'd spend most of their Christmas holiday walking around without a stitch on.

Finished with her personal indulgent shopping, she headed toward the shopping center she'd seen on her way to the lingerie store. She didn't have a clue what to get him, but hoped inspiration would strike while she walked the sidewalks between stores.

She probably should pick up a few souvenirs for her employees while she was at it. They all worked hard and she liked rewarding them throughout the year with small tokens of appreciation. Plus they'd all threatened her if she didn't bring them something “tacky” back from Florida.

She wandered into a store that sold just that, looking through the aisles for appropriately gaudy trinkets for the nurses and administrative staff. She picked up a conch shell with the word Florida carved in the side and tucked it into her handheld shopping basket.

A paperweight with a small starfish went in next. She was turning the corner toward the next row when she spotted the stack of mens boxers folded on the endcap.

A silky pair of forest green ones caught her eye and she couldn't stop her chuckle. Oh, mercy. She had a vivid mental picture of Blake in them and nothing else.
